Spring is the perfect time to hatch a few chicks of your own. Inspired by a few idle hands and a rainy day, we took advantage of the indoors and crafted our own little flock. This was a simple activity that took very little supplies and time. We also applied a few fliers to our May Day cards!
I remembered seeing a similar craft using circles to create birds and that was my inspiration. I couldn't recall if they used fingerprints or paper to hatch a gaggle of cuteness, so I decided to use paper circles in varying sizes and colors to review a few preschool concepts (circles, colors, sizes, etc.) with the children. The children enjoyed this a lot and even talked about the different types of birds they have seen.
To make this simple preschool craft, you will need the following items:
- construction paper (cut into circles and small triangles for the beaks)
- scissors
- cupcake liners
- glue
- markers or crayons
- Cut a circle. We used primary colors and varying sizes.
- Using an orange piece of paper, cut a small triangle for the beak. We folded ours over so the mouth could open.
- On another sheet of paper, glue down the circle and attach your beak with glue.
- Carefully, cut a cupcake liner in half.
- Attach the "wings" to your bird with a small dab of glue.
- Take a marker and draw eyes and legs for your bird.
- Let dry and display.
